Hiring a Professional Speaker Wendy McClelland Your decision to hire a professional speaker for your organization is a good investment – both in time and money. If however, the fee seems out of reach for your organization here are some suggestions that I am able to offer. CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP Many corporations have budgets for promotional purposes. You can approach them with a written proposal (I have templates available) and ask them to underwrite the cost of hiring a professional speaker such as myself. In exchange you offer the sponsor the following: - prominent placement of signs at your event advertising the sponsor - the sponsor’s logo and company name on all marketing materials and handouts used during the event - the sponsor’s logo and company name on all advertising (print, radio, etc) done to promote event - sponsor’s staff members are invited to attend as well - sponsor principals (owners, CEO’s) will be publicly thanked and recognized at the seminar and be able to give a brief speech to the group I am able to offer the following: - a personal thank you to note the sponsor for their support - a banner ad (from the sponsor) on my Think Without Boundaries! website - a thank you announcement in my Think Without Boundaries! Newsletter, currently going out to approximately 400 people each month via email - mention of the sponsor in all my appearances for your organization - mention of the sponsor in all press releases I send out for my appearance with your organization - photo opportunities for the sponsor to use in their promotional materials Suggested corporate sponsors – banks, trust companies, credit unions, investment firms, financial planners, insurance agencies, marketing companies and “high tech” companies. And remember – you can offer sponsorship to more than one organization, and don’t forget smaller businesses who may wish to generate some new exposure. EDUCATIONAL FUND RAISER This event allows your organization to make some money as well as have an entertaining speaker! You pay my expenses (air, hotel and car if necessary). You pay to rent the room in which I will present my seminar. I will help you with press releases, marketing ideas, etc. You can then sell tickets to this event – at a price agreed upon by both myself and your organization. After my initial fee is covered by ticket sales, we then split the profit from the ticket sales 50/50. This allows your organization to make some money at the same time providing a valuable informational seminar. TWO EVENTS IN ONE If I’m travelling beyond a short distance to come to your location why not hire me for the whole day? You can combine my keynote address or seminar presentation to your members with a further presentation later in the day for the general public who may be interested in another topic that I offer. You could then charge a fee for this second seminar and all the profits are yours. I would assist with promoting this via press releases, radio interviews, and marketing ideas. PRIVATE CONSULTATIONS Many times after my speaking engagements audience members will ask me if I can consult with them privately. Why not make this work for your group to offset the costs of hiring me – and earn some money too? I am happy to share the profits from private consultations that happen immediately after your event. These must be booked in advance and a signed contract will be needed. Please let me know if you’d like more details.
CO-SPONSORS Have you considered asking other like minded associations or groups to pay half my fee? This will allow both groups to provide good quality material to enrich their members business and personal lives. It also provides an excellent opportunity for networking among other positive thinking individuals. These are only a few ideas that I hope will assist you in your wise decision to hire a professional speaker for your event. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or suggestions. I am REALLY looking forward to working with you!
